Q1. Thank you so much for chatting with us! To start off, would you mind sharing a brief introduction about you, your company and what you do?
A1. My name is Angi, owner and calligrapher of Angelique, Ink. I started my company in late 2009 and have since been creating custom handwritten pieces for clients all over the globe! I love creating designs that showcase beautiful, modern calligraphy because it is meaningful and warm and feels so personal to see something written by hand with care and attention to detail. While it's always wedding season around here, I also design logos, tattoos, signs, personal stationery, make custom stamps and prints, and teach calligraphy classes in SoCal! http://www.angeliqueink.com
Q2. What inspired you to start a calligraphy business?
A2. I have always had a special love for calligraphy, since I was a kid, messing around with my cheap calligraphy kit and doodling names and words every chance I got. Several years ago, I took up calligraphy again, just as a fun hobby to get into, and my sweet husband told me he thought I could sell my work! I didn't really believe him, but decided it couldn't hurt to try, so I started formulating some ideas for a business, and very soon after, Angelique, Ink was born!
Q3. What would you say has been the most prevalent trend for events and weddings this year? (Particularly colors, design, themes, etc)
A3. Well, interestingly, handwritten calligraphy seems to be a huge trend lately! I see a lot of brush lettering and modern calligraphy in details throughout weddings from the invitations to the signage, menus, backdrops, etc. Watercolor is definitely trending--it's a perfect way to add soft splashes of color paired with whimsical, imperfect calligraphy. Rustic/vintage is a popular theme, which incorporates that handwritten element to add the feeling of old-timey signage that adds warmth and personality to the details, and the use of more modern calligraphy styles keeps it from being stuffy as it embodies a more fresh styling.
